Narrative:
Our flight was departing late and the ramp personnel were trying to hurry us out. We had a deferred APU, and there was confusion pushing from the gate as the tug driver did not know, nor attempt to find out, how the pushback should be conducted. We discovered at the last moment that we would be doing a xbleed start. We accomplished the xbleed start on the way to the runway and were still trying to finish our before takeoff checks when mci tower called us and cleared us into position on runway 19L. While rolling into position, we finally caught up on our checks and applied takeoff power. We didn't get very far before tower told us we weren't cleared for takeoff. We stopped, cleared the runway, and taxied back. I believe that I had let us get into a 'rush' mode due to late departure, the added burden of a xbleed start procedure, and being cleared into position before we were ready. Since we were firing off the checklists quickly, it seemed natural to flow right into the takeoff, and I didn't catch my mistake until it was too late. Supplemental information from acn 610624: ground personnel informed us that we would have to perform a xbleed start for engine #2, however, it could not be accomplished at the gate. As we taxied out single engine, ground (mci) informed us that we could xbleed start engine on taxiway. After xbleed start was accomplished, checklists were performed and we continued taxi for departure. I informed mci tower we were ready, at which time he cleared us to taxi into position and hold. I read back the clearance and performed takeoff checklist to the line. Upon aligning with runway centerline, captain xferred controls to me and stated 'you have the controls.' I replied 'my controls' and advanced thrust levers to takeoff setting to begin takeoff roll. Upon reaching approximately 40 KIAS, tower informed us we were only to hold in position. Captain assumed controls and aborted takeoff.

Title: CL65 CREW BEGAN TKOF ROLL WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: OUR FLT WAS DEPARTING LATE AND THE RAMP PERSONNEL WERE TRYING TO HURRY US OUT. WE ACCOMPLISHED THE XBLEED START ON THE WAY TO THE RWY AND WERE STILL TRYING TO FINISH OUR BEFORE TKOF CHKS WHEN MCI TWR CALLED US AND CLRED US INTO POS ON RWY 19L. WHILE ROLLING INTO POS, WE FINALLY CAUGHT UP ON OUR CHKS AND APPLIED TKOF PWR. WE DIDN'T GET VERY FAR BEFORE TWR TOLD US WE WEREN'T CLRED FOR TKOF. WE STOPPED, CLRED THE RWY, AND TAXIED BACK. I BELIEVE THAT I HAD LET US GET INTO A 'RUSH' MODE DUE TO LATE DEP, THE ADDED BURDEN OF A XBLEED START PROC, AND BEING CLRED INTO POS BEFORE WE WERE READY. SINCE WE WERE FIRING OFF THE CHKLISTS QUICKLY, IT SEEMED NATURAL TO FLOW RIGHT INTO THE TKOF, AND I DIDN'T CATCH MY MISTAKE UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 610624: GND PERSONNEL INFORMED US THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PERFORM A XBLEED START FOR ENG #2, HOWEVER, IT COULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED AT THE GATE. AS WE TAXIED OUT SINGLE ENG, GND (MCI) INFORMED US THAT WE COULD XBLEED START ENG ON TXWY. AFTER XBLEED START WAS ACCOMPLISHED, CHKLISTS WERE PERFORMED AND WE CONTINUED TAXI FOR DEP. I INFORMED MCI TWR WE WERE READY, AT WHICH TIME HE CLRED US TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. I READ BACK THE CLRNC AND PERFORMED TKOF CHKLIST TO THE LINE. UPON ALIGNING WITH RWY CTRLINE, CAPT XFERRED CTLS TO ME AND STATED 'YOU HAVE THE CTLS.' I REPLIED 'MY CTLS' AND ADVANCED THRUST LEVERS TO TKOF SETTING TO BEGIN TKOF ROLL. UPON REACHING APPROX 40 KIAS, TWR INFORMED US WE WERE ONLY TO HOLD IN POS. CAPT ASSUMED CTLS AND ABORTED TKOF.
