Narrative:

While flying to jeffco (bjc), we noticed the radio had been quiet for a while, so we immediately got a hold of center to confirm, and they seemed to forget to give us a handoff. They seemed like it was no big deal. A few hours later while returning to mesa, az, the same thing happened, but when we tried to contact center, there was no response. We then tried to reach FSS to get a frequency, but it was to no avail. We then monitored 121.5 and pulled charts and found a center frequency. We resumed contact with center for the rest of our flight. We were told to call ZDV. They gave us a stern lecture on the seriousness of the situation. After reviewing tapes, it seems I read back the wrong frequency. I thought I had checked in after the handoff. How I see sits happening because during the course of the day we can get 30 or more handoffs, and at times the controllers may take a few mins to respond, or we have to call them several times. They always say they were on the landline or off line. It happens on every flight. In hindsight, we should have been monitoring 121.5 during the whole flight, but even then, we were trying to get ATIS. In the future, we are going to be more careful on the handoffs. Luckily, we had no conflicts and it was only 20 mins of lost radio. We were on a direct route with no changes. ZDV seemed things were ok and no violations would be filed.

Title: A CE560 FLT CREW FORGET TO CHK IN WITH A ZDV ARTCC CTLR WHILE ENRTE.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING TO JEFFCO (BJC), WE NOTICED THE RADIO HAD BEEN QUIET FOR A WHILE, SO WE IMMEDIATELY GOT A HOLD OF CTR TO CONFIRM, AND THEY SEEMED TO FORGET TO GIVE US A HDOF. THEY SEEMED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. A FEW HRS LATER WHILE RETURNING TO MESA, AZ, THE SAME THING HAPPENED, BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO CONTACT CTR, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. WE THEN TRIED TO REACH FSS TO GET A FREQ, BUT IT WAS TO NO AVAIL. WE THEN MONITORED 121.5 AND PULLED CHARTS AND FOUND A CTR FREQ. WE RESUMED CONTACT WITH CTR FOR THE REST OF OUR FLT. WE WERE TOLD TO CALL ZDV. THEY GAVE US A STERN LECTURE ON THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SIT. AFTER REVIEWING TAPES, IT SEEMS I READ BACK THE WRONG FREQ. I THOUGHT I HAD CHKED IN AFTER THE HDOF. HOW I SEE SITS HAPPENING BECAUSE DURING THE COURSE OF THE DAY WE CAN GET 30 OR MORE HDOFS, AND AT TIMES THE CTLRS MAY TAKE A FEW MINS TO RESPOND, OR WE HAVE TO CALL THEM SEVERAL TIMES. THEY ALWAYS SAY THEY WERE ON THE LANDLINE OR OFF LINE. IT HAPPENS ON EVERY FLT. IN HINDSIGHT, WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MONITORING 121.5 DURING THE WHOLE FLT, BUT EVEN THEN, WE WERE TRYING TO GET ATIS. IN THE FUTURE, WE ARE GOING TO BE MORE CAREFUL ON THE HDOFS. LUCKILY, WE HAD NO CONFLICTS AND IT WAS ONLY 20 MINS OF LOST RADIO. WE WERE ON A DIRECT RTE WITH NO CHANGES. ZDV SEEMED THINGS WERE OK AND NO VIOLATIONS WOULD BE FILED.
