Narrative:
During taxi-out from the gate to runway 19R at mke, we were cleared to taxi via txwys B, M, east to runway 19R at intersection V for intersection departure. Captain and first officer were conducting required takeoff briefing. Missed taxiway V and inadvertently crossed runway 25R. This runway is narrow and when accompanied by the distraction of the takeoff briefing, was mistaken for another taxiway. Tower cleared us for full length takeoff and advised no action would be taken. Contributing to our illusion that we had not yet reached intersection V was citation jet waiting for a full length takeoff at taxiway F. From our perspective, it made this appear to be the takeoff point to which we had been directed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW OF B717, CLRED TO RWY 19R AT INTXN V BY MKE GND CTLR MISS THE INTXN AND CROSS RWY 25 WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: DURING TAXI-OUT FROM THE GATE TO RWY 19R AT MKE, WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI VIA TXWYS B, M, E TO RWY 19R AT INTXN V FOR INTXN DEP. CAPT AND FO WERE CONDUCTING REQUIRED TKOF BRIEFING. MISSED TXWY V AND INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 25R. THIS RWY IS NARROW AND WHEN ACCOMPANIED BY THE DISTR OF THE TKOF BRIEFING, WAS MISTAKEN FOR ANOTHER TXWY. TWR CLRED US FOR FULL LENGTH TKOF AND ADVISED NO ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN. CONTRIBUTING TO OUR ILLUSION THAT WE HAD NOT YET REACHED INTXN V WAS CITATION JET WAITING FOR A FULL LENGTH TKOF AT TXWY F. FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE, IT MADE THIS APPEAR TO BE THE TKOF POINT TO WHICH WE HAD BEEN DIRECTED.
