Narrative:
We were cleared to hold short of the active runway 22 on an unusually short segment of taxiway F that would have left our tail blocking taxiway B from which we came. We stopped in the middle of taxiway F which was well clear of the active runway as well as taxiway B behind us. In doing so, we inadvertently breached the hold short line by approximately 10-15 ft. I noticed our error, but failed to communicate it because of my confusion with the awkwardness of effectively holding short, but blocking the taxiway behind. Our original action of pulling forward seemed intuitively appropriate which caused me to be slow in challenging. As a result, an aircraft on short final for runway 22 was directed to go around without incident. Supplemental information from acn 614679: I tried to pull the aircraft far enough ahead so as not to block the taxiway behind me. But ground told me that I was too far forward and tower had to send aircraft on final around.

Title: A B757 INADVERTENTLY CROSSES THE HOLD LINE OF RWY 22 AT LGA, RESULTING IN AN ACFT ON FINAL GOING AROUND.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE ACTIVE RWY 22 ON AN UNUSUALLY SHORT SEGMENT OF TXWY F THAT WOULD HAVE LEFT OUR TAIL BLOCKING TXWY B FROM WHICH WE CAME. WE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TXWY F WHICH WAS WELL CLR OF THE ACTIVE RWY AS WELL AS TXWY B BEHIND US. IN DOING SO, WE INADVERTENTLY BREACHED THE HOLD SHORT LINE BY APPROX 10-15 FT. I NOTICED OUR ERROR, BUT FAILED TO COMMUNICATE IT BECAUSE OF MY CONFUSION WITH THE AWKWARDNESS OF EFFECTIVELY HOLDING SHORT, BUT BLOCKING THE TXWY BEHIND. OUR ORIGINAL ACTION OF PULLING FORWARD SEEMED INTUITIVELY APPROPRIATE WHICH CAUSED ME TO BE SLOW IN CHALLENGING. AS A RESULT, AN ACFT ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 22 WAS DIRECTED TO GO AROUND WITHOUT INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 614679: I TRIED TO PULL THE ACFT FAR ENOUGH AHEAD SO AS NOT TO BLOCK THE TXWY BEHIND ME. BUT GND TOLD ME THAT I WAS TOO FAR FORWARD AND TWR HAD TO SEND ACFT ON FINAL AROUND.
