Narrative:
The catering truck blocked the access to gate and a very attentive ground stopped me and moved him. When we blocked in, truck moved up to the right side to cater the front. The aircraft was half unloaded. The forward flight attendants had to assist older passenger and moved aft. The caterer was in his truck when 4 of these elderly passenger turned right and I caught them before going out the catering door. I spoke to the caterer and called all appropriate supervisors and was tended to well. I think this is an unsafe practice to cater with only 1 person.
