Narrative:

Flight was taxiing out to runway 6 via taxiway J and taxiway D. At the intersection of taxiway J and taxiway D, the captain turned right onto taxiway M instead of left onto taxiway D. The captain advised the first officer 'crossing runway 6/24, clear left (traffic)' and the first officer replied 'clear right.' after crossing the hold short line, the captain brought the aircraft to a stop prior to encroaching on the runway, after realizing his error. The controller instructed the crew to back-taxi into position and hold on runway 6. The crew had previously briefed a taxi to runway 36, which likely contributed to the mistake.
