Narrative:
At sfb, while taxiing to runway, there is a hold short line well short of the runway. I was busy completing the taxi checklist when I realized or saw the hold short line go under my nose. I stopped the aircraft about 15 ft past the hold short. I told the first officer to call the tower to advise them of the situation, but there was no opportunity to say anything because the controller never stopped transmitting. 3 small aircraft landed without any problems. In fact, because the hold short line is actually on the parallel taxiway, we were no closer to the runway laterally had we stopped prior to the hold short line. Tower said nothing, cleared us for takeoff and we flew the rest of the leg without any problems. The hold short line is well short of its usual position. There are no signs at the side of the taxiway, just the painted marking on the ground, plus there is an old hold short line next to the runway -- although painted black. It still can look like a hold short at certain angles.

Title: MD80 TAXIING FOR DEP AT SFB CROSSED RWY HOLD LINE.
Narrative: AT SFB, WHILE TAXIING TO RWY, THERE IS A HOLD SHORT LINE WELL SHORT OF THE RWY. I WAS BUSY COMPLETING THE TAXI CHKLIST WHEN I REALIZED OR SAW THE HOLD SHORT LINE GO UNDER MY NOSE. I STOPPED THE ACFT ABOUT 15 FT PAST THE HOLD SHORT. I TOLD THE FO TO CALL THE TWR TO ADVISE THEM OF THE SIT, BUT THERE WAS NO OPPORTUNITY TO SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE THE CTLR NEVER STOPPED XMITTING. 3 SMALL ACFT LANDED WITHOUT ANY PROBS. IN FACT, BECAUSE THE HOLD SHORT LINE IS ACTUALLY ON THE PARALLEL TXWY, WE WERE NO CLOSER TO THE RWY LATERALLY HAD WE STOPPED PRIOR TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE. TWR SAID NOTHING, CLRED US FOR TKOF AND WE FLEW THE REST OF THE LEG WITHOUT ANY PROBS. THE HOLD SHORT LINE IS WELL SHORT OF ITS USUAL POS. THERE ARE NO SIGNS AT THE SIDE OF THE TXWY, JUST THE PAINTED MARKING ON THE GND, PLUS THERE IS AN OLD HOLD SHORT LINE NEXT TO THE RWY -- ALTHOUGH PAINTED BLACK. IT STILL CAN LOOK LIKE A HOLD SHORT AT CERTAIN ANGLES.
