Narrative:

After takeoff, the flight attendants called to report they heard a metal scraping sound during rotation. We declared an emergency and returned to ord to be inspected and made an over weight landing. When we departed on runway 32L with flaps 5 degrees, the winds were approximately 340 degrees at 5-10 KTS. Rotation was on speed and rate of rotation appeared totally normal to all the pilots. All 3 of us felt that there was absolutely no way that we hit the tail skid. As a precaution, we returned to ord primarily on the report of the scraping noise on takeoff. Made an uneventful over weight landing at 345000 pounds. Did not dump fuel. Made normal landing. Inspection revealed that the tail skid was scraped. Maintenance inspection revealed slight scrape of tail skid.
