Narrative:
#1 hydraulic low pressure light came on in-flight followed by loss of fluid indications. Performed procedure, called dispatch and maintenance. Continued on to oak, declared emergency and landed normally. Had fire crew check aircraft over. They said fluid was leaking and some tire tread damage, but tire was still inflated. Got to gate and called air carrier. He said departure airport tower had shut down runway for rubber on runway. ATC told air carrier they weren't sure what flight it was, but thought it was the flight to ZZZ. Air carrier informed that at hotel. Called air carrier and it turns out the tower logged the rubber problem around our departure time which made it our flight. Had air carrier known the correct time earlier, they would have notified us and we could have dealt with it differently. Supplemental information from acn 616269: had we known this information en route, we would have known the tire had caused the hydraulic failure and could have returned to departure airport.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-800 FLT CREW SUFFERS THE LOSS OF THEIR L HYD SYS AFTER A TREAD SEPARATION ON TKOF FROM DEP ARPT WITH A SUBSEQUENT LNDG AT OAK, CA.
Narrative: #1 HYD LOW PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON INFLT FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF FLUID INDICATIONS. PERFORMED PROC, CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT. CONTINUED ON TO OAK, DECLARED EMER AND LANDED NORMALLY. HAD FIRE CREW CHK ACFT OVER. THEY SAID FLUID WAS LEAKING AND SOME TIRE TREAD DAMAGE, BUT TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED. GOT TO GATE AND CALLED ACR. HE SAID DEP ARPT TWR HAD SHUT DOWN RWY FOR RUBBER ON RWY. ATC TOLD ACR THEY WEREN'T SURE WHAT FLT IT WAS, BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE FLT TO ZZZ. ACR INFORMED THAT AT HOTEL. CALLED ACR AND IT TURNS OUT THE TWR LOGGED THE RUBBER PROB AROUND OUR DEP TIME WHICH MADE IT OUR FLT. HAD ACR KNOWN THE CORRECT TIME EARLIER, THEY WOULD HAVE NOTIFIED US AND WE COULD HAVE DEALT WITH IT DIFFERENTLY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 616269: HAD WE KNOWN THIS INFO ENRTE, WE WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE TIRE HAD CAUSED THE HYD FAILURE AND COULD HAVE RETURNED TO DEP ARPT.
