Narrative:
When I arrived at aircraft, the other mechanic involved was working on the captain's sliding window. He was installing the new window. I began to help the mechanic to install this window. We rigged the window, pull tested handle and measured all gaps. Found to be within limits. The 1 item that was overlooked was the rii buyback as I was unaware that this was required, as no one from supervisor to lead aided in this valuable information. This item was missed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the paperwork out of the maintenance manual for replacing the sliding window does not indicate the window is a required inspection item (rii). The reporter said the required inspection item list is in the maintenance procedures manual but this is not read at every maintenance assignment.
