Narrative:
While vectoring for approach we were given a vector into a small area of WX we could not comply with. We asked for and received a slight deviation and were lectured by ATC that he had many aircraft pass through the WX that we felt was not in our best interest. Then in a punitive tone we were given a vector toward a level 4 area which was producing hail and high winds and we told him we were unable to comply with the restr but could not proceed on the initial vector. I believe the tone and response by approach control was extremely unprofessional considering the circumstances. There was no altitude deviation nor was there any conflict with traffic on the TCASII.
