Narrative:
Smoke in cabin/cockpit. Emergency declared and emergency descent to clt for landing at clt. Had smell (citrus type) in cockpit, followed by smoke and detector alarm in mid galley. Accomplished smoke and fume checklist. Smoke dissipated and smell went away. After landing, deplaned at gate since all indications were good. Oxygen used. Excellent communications from cabin crew led to prompt action by all.

Title: GALLEY SMOKE DETECTOR ON A B757-200 STARTS A CHAIN OF EVENTS THAT IS CULMINATED WITH AN EMER DSCNT AND LNDG AT CLT, NC.
Narrative: SMOKE IN CABIN/COCKPIT. EMER DECLARED AND EMER DSCNT TO CLT FOR LNDG AT CLT. HAD SMELL (CITRUS TYPE) IN COCKPIT, FOLLOWED BY SMOKE AND DETECTOR ALARM IN MID GALLEY. ACCOMPLISHED SMOKE AND FUME CHKLIST. SMOKE DISSIPATED AND SMELL WENT AWAY. AFTER LNDG, DEPLANED AT GATE SINCE ALL INDICATIONS WERE GOOD. OXYGEN USED. EXCELLENT COMS FROM CABIN CREW LED TO PROMPT ACTION BY ALL.
