Narrative:

Center gave us a late crossing at pivot of 10000 ft. The first officer was flying, and was on his first trip after IOE. It was apparent to me that we needed to immediately start down, with speed brakes extended to make the crossing. I mentioned this to the first officer to no avail. I mentioned it a second time, and the response was 'relax, I'll make the crossing.' now I was a little bit upset with this attitude, so I waited to see what would happen. We finally started down, but without the speed brakes. I again suggested use of full speed brakes, or we would not make the crossing. At this point, the relief pilot interjected as well that we were not going to make the crossing. I finally attempted to get altitude relief from the controller, but was unable to get a hold of him as he was talking continuously. We crossed pivot at approximately 10800 ft. The flying first officer had just bid back from being an airbus captain, and apparently was not going to take any input from myself or the relief pilot as to what might work with the B777 as far as making the assigned crossing. In the future, if this type of a situation arises, I will probably take control of the airplane, rather than attempt CRM on an individual who obviously is not listening.

Title: B777 FLT CREW DSNDING FOR ORD FAILS TO MEET ALT XING RESTR ACCOUNTABLE TO CRM PROBS.

Narrative: CTR GAVE US A LATE XING AT PIVOT OF 10000 FT. THE FO WAS FLYING, AND WAS ON HIS FIRST TRIP AFTER IOE. IT WAS APPARENT TO ME THAT WE NEEDED TO IMMEDIATELY START DOWN, WITH SPD BRAKES EXTENDED TO MAKE THE XING. I MENTIONED THIS TO THE FO TO NO AVAIL. I MENTIONED IT A SECOND TIME, AND THE RESPONSE WAS 'RELAX, I'LL MAKE THE XING.' NOW I WAS A LITTLE BIT UPSET WITH THIS ATTITUDE, SO I WAITED TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. WE FINALLY STARTED DOWN, BUT WITHOUT THE SPD BRAKES. I AGAIN SUGGESTED USE OF FULL SPD BRAKES, OR WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE XING. AT THIS POINT, THE RELIEF PLT INTERJECTED AS WELL THAT WE WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE THE XING. I FINALLY ATTEMPTED TO GET ALT RELIEF FROM THE CTLR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET A HOLD OF HIM AS HE WAS TALKING CONTINUOUSLY. WE CROSSED PIVOT AT APPROX 10800 FT. THE FLYING FO HAD JUST BID BACK FROM BEING AN AIRBUS CAPT, AND APPARENTLY WAS NOT GOING TO TAKE ANY INPUT FROM MYSELF OR THE RELIEF PLT AS TO WHAT MIGHT WORK WITH THE B777 AS FAR AS MAKING THE ASSIGNED XING. IN THE FUTURE, IF THIS TYPE OF A SIT ARISES, I WILL PROBABLY TAKE CTL OF THE AIRPLANE, RATHER THAN ATTEMPT CRM ON AN INDIVIDUAL WHO OBVIOUSLY IS NOT LISTENING.
