Narrative:
On taxi out for takeoff on runway 20 in yak, I inadvertently taxied onto runway 11/29 which was closed for resurfacing. Our takeoff weight was close to maximum for the departure runway 20 and I was focused on positioning the aircraft to take advantage of all available runway surface. There was not any construction activity on runway 11/29 on or near the area where I maneuvered the aircraft, and the runway surface was untouched and completely intact. With a mind set to maximize the takeoff distance, I unknowingly taxied over a portion of runway 11/29 while maneuvering into the takeoff position. The first officer was reading the checklist and did not have an opportunity to warn me about the area in which I was maneuvering until we had already taxied over the closed runway. I am very cognizant of my mistake and am confident that a similar mistake will not take place again.
