Narrative:

On takeoff there was 'bang' and the aircraft became very difficult to control and would not climb. There was an extreme l-turning tendency so, I elected to land immediately. The aircraft landed on rough ground north of runway 9 and collided with a fence. The collision resulted in minor damage to left wing and propeller. Upon exiting the aircraft the rear door was observed about 20 ft behind the aircraft on the ground. Upon departure the rear passenger door appeared to have failed without warning and caused sudden loss of control. I aborted takeoff and landed safely with minor damage to the aircraft caused by the aircraft encountering a fence. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated it was his belief the door had opened after takeoff but was still attached to the aircraft until about the time he touched down. He felt the difficulty in control was due to disruption of airflow to the tail surfaces. He also stressed that he was sure he had tested the door for security during his preflight.

Title: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF FROM IMM THE AFT PAX DOOR OF THE DIAMOND DA40 OPENED. THIS RESULTED IN SEVERE CTL DIFFICULTY AND THE PLT ELECTED TO LAND STRAIGHT AHEAD OFF THE RWY SURFACE RESULTING IN A COLLISION WITH A FENCE AND DAMAGE TO THE ACFT.

Narrative: ON TKOF THERE WAS 'BANG' AND THE ACFT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO CTL AND WOULD NOT CLB. THERE WAS AN EXTREME L-TURNING TENDENCY SO, I ELECTED TO LAND IMMEDIATELY. THE ACFT LANDED ON ROUGH GND N OF RWY 9 AND COLLIDED WITH A FENCE. THE COLLISION RESULTED IN MINOR DAMAGE TO L WING AND PROP. UPON EXITING THE ACFT THE REAR DOOR WAS OBSERVED ABOUT 20 FT BEHIND THE ACFT ON THE GND. UPON DEP THE REAR PAX DOOR APPEARED TO HAVE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED SUDDEN LOSS OF CTL. I ABORTED TKOF AND LANDED SAFELY WITH MINOR DAMAGE TO THE ACFT CAUSED BY THE ACFT ENCOUNTERING A FENCE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED IT WAS HIS BELIEF THE DOOR HAD OPENED AFTER TKOF BUT WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE ACFT UNTIL ABOUT THE TIME HE TOUCHED DOWN. HE FELT THE DIFFICULTY IN CTL WAS DUE TO DISRUPTION OF AIRFLOW TO THE TAIL SURFACES. HE ALSO STRESSED THAT HE WAS SURE HE HAD TESTED THE DOOR FOR SECURITY DURING HIS PREFLT.
