Narrative:

While climbing to FL230, passing 15200 ft, a TCASII alert sounded immediately followed by an RA commanding a descent. First officer was flying on autoplt and looking outside for traffic. I took control of the aircraft, disconnected the autoplt, announced to the first officer that 'I have the aircraft,' and responded immediately to the RA descent command. At the same time I announced to ATC that I was responding to an RA. The controller said 'he should pass off to your right' and I repeated to him that I was responding to an RA. The controller finally said 'roger.' at 14700 ft the TCASII announced 'clear of conflict' and I told ATC we were continuing our climb to FL230. I printed out the TCASII event from the FMC and it is available, if required.
