Narrative:
We were cleared to position and hold on runway 19 in dca, and cleared for an immediate takeoff as the previous landing aircraft was clearing the runway. As the engines were spooling up, we were instructed by the tower to abort the takeoff and clear the runway at the next intersection. As we cleared, we could see an airbus at approximately 50 ft on final. We should not have been cleared onto the runway in the first place.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: REJECTED TKOF ORDERED FOR A B737 FLT SPOOLING UP ITS ENGS IN POS FOR TKOF WITH AN AIRBUS ON SHORT FINAL, RWY 19, DCA.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 19 IN DCA, AND CLRED FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF AS THE PREVIOUS LNDG ACFT WAS CLRING THE RWY. AS THE ENGS WERE SPOOLING UP, WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR TO ABORT THE TKOF AND CLR THE RWY AT THE NEXT INTXN. AS WE CLRED, WE COULD SEE AN AIRBUS AT APPROX 50 FT ON FINAL. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CLRED ONTO THE RWY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
