Narrative:
VFR WX arrival into las. We were kept very high on lynsy 2 arrival ILS runway 25L for traffic we were to follow to runway. Approach advised 'descend to 8000 ft, slow to 190 KTS, advise traffic (an A321) and runway in sight for visual' while we were on vector for final. With speed brakes and flaps we complied with a rapid descent and slowing to 190 KTS. We spotted traffic, but due to radio congestion we were unable to advise that traffic and airport in sight. Just prior to 8000 ft leveloff received 'slow to 170 KTS, cleared visual to runway 25L reference traffic.' aircraft autoplt and mode control panel in use. I used heading select to start turn to final. While aircraft started to level, I disconnected autoplt to start descent to GS. While adding power and retracting speed brakes we received a momentary stick shaker. Had I retracted speed brakes earlier, we would not have received shaker, because speed was more than ample for flaps 20 degrees. Balance of approach was stable as we returned to GS and made normal landing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 CREW RECEIVED A MOMENTARY STICK SHAKER WITH SPD BRAKES EXTENDED ON APCH TO LAS.
Narrative: VFR WX ARR INTO LAS. WE WERE KEPT VERY HIGH ON LYNSY 2 ARR ILS RWY 25L FOR TFC WE WERE TO FOLLOW TO RWY. APCH ADVISED 'DSND TO 8000 FT, SLOW TO 190 KTS, ADVISE TFC (AN A321) AND RWY IN SIGHT FOR VISUAL' WHILE WE WERE ON VECTOR FOR FINAL. WITH SPD BRAKES AND FLAPS WE COMPLIED WITH A RAPID DSCNT AND SLOWING TO 190 KTS. WE SPOTTED TFC, BUT DUE TO RADIO CONGESTION WE WERE UNABLE TO ADVISE THAT TFC AND ARPT IN SIGHT. JUST PRIOR TO 8000 FT LEVELOFF RECEIVED 'SLOW TO 170 KTS, CLRED VISUAL TO RWY 25L REF TFC.' ACFT AUTOPLT AND MODE CTL PANEL IN USE. I USED HDG SELECT TO START TURN TO FINAL. WHILE ACFT STARTED TO LEVEL, I DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT TO START DSCNT TO GS. WHILE ADDING PWR AND RETRACTING SPD BRAKES WE RECEIVED A MOMENTARY STICK SHAKER. HAD I RETRACTED SPD BRAKES EARLIER, WE WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED SHAKER, BECAUSE SPD WAS MORE THAN AMPLE FOR FLAPS 20 DEGS. BAL OF APCH WAS STABLE AS WE RETURNED TO GS AND MADE NORMAL LNDG.
