Narrative:
Rejected takeoff from taxi speed because amber leading edge transit light (forward instrument panel) came on just as I was beginning to advance power levers for takeoff. There was no master caution warning. Light stayed on for only a few seconds until I retarded power to idle. Told first officer to tell the tower we were rejecting takeoff and would exit the runway when cleared to do so. Exited runway. Cycled flaps to up and then back to 5 degree setting. All indications were normal. Told tower we were ready for takeoff again. Den tower cleared us for takeoff again on same runway 8. I advanced power and transit light came on again in about 50 KTS, rejected takeoff again, at about 60 KTS. Rejected takeoff did not activate when throttles were closed. Returned to gate. Found out from den maintenance that this aircraft had a history of this problem. I am not impressed with that fact.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737 FLT CREW RETURNS TO THE GATE FOR MAINT CHK FOR 2 LOW SPD ABORTED TKOFS INITIATED WHEN THEIR LEADING EDGE FLAP TRANSIT LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING EACH APPLICATION OF TKOF THRUST AT DEN.
Narrative: REJECTED TKOF FROM TAXI SPD BECAUSE AMBER LEADING EDGE TRANSIT LIGHT (FORWARD INST PANEL) CAME ON JUST AS I WAS BEGINNING TO ADVANCE PWR LEVERS FOR TKOF. THERE WAS NO MASTER CAUTION WARNING. LIGHT STAYED ON FOR ONLY A FEW SECONDS UNTIL I RETARDED PWR TO IDLE. TOLD FO TO TELL THE TWR WE WERE REJECTING TKOF AND WOULD EXIT THE RWY WHEN CLRED TO DO SO. EXITED RWY. CYCLED FLAPS TO UP AND THEN BACK TO 5 DEG SETTING. ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. TOLD TWR WE WERE READY FOR TKOF AGAIN. DEN TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF AGAIN ON SAME RWY 8. I ADVANCED PWR AND TRANSIT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN IN ABOUT 50 KTS, REJECTED TKOF AGAIN, AT ABOUT 60 KTS. REJECTED TKOF DID NOT ACTIVATE WHEN THROTTLES WERE CLOSED. RETURNED TO GATE. FOUND OUT FROM DEN MAINT THAT THIS ACFT HAD A HISTORY OF THIS PROB. I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH THAT FACT.
