Air Traffic Incident | Operational Error |
Narrative:
Assigned 10000 ft on climb out and advised traffic at 10500 ft. At 9600 ft, TCASII showed traffic 200 ft high and received RA to descend. Descended to 9300 ft, cleared traffic, resumed climb. When notified of the event, socal approach stated, 'my equipment shows him at 10500 ft.' supplemental information from acn 622802: at 9700 ft with a climb rate of approximately 500 FPM we received an RA from TCASII to descend. We responded to RA and descended to 9300 ft before leveling off. TCASII indicated other aircraft to be 200 ft above our altitude and less than 1/2 mi. We reported the RA with ATC and their response was the aircraft was at 10500 ft. We showed the aircraft to be at 9500 ft. There was another aircraft in the immediate vicinity (1 mi or less) which was indicating a slightly higher altitude, 3 airplanes within 1 1/2 mi of each other within 1000 ft. We continued climb without further incident after warning and clear of traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-800 FLT CREW RPTED THAT THEY RECEIVED A TCASII RA IN SCT'S AIRSPACE, ON AN ACFT THEY HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT.
Narrative: ASSIGNED 10000 FT ON CLBOUT AND ADVISED TFC AT 10500 FT. AT 9600 FT, TCASII SHOWED TFC 200 FT HIGH AND RECEIVED RA TO DSND. DSNDED TO 9300 FT, CLRED TFC, RESUMED CLB. WHEN NOTIFIED OF THE EVENT, SOCAL APCH STATED, 'MY EQUIP SHOWS HIM AT 10500 FT.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 622802: AT 9700 FT WITH A CLB RATE OF APPROX 500 FPM WE RECEIVED AN RA FROM TCASII TO DSND. WE RESPONDED TO RA AND DSNDED TO 9300 FT BEFORE LEVELING OFF. TCASII INDICATED OTHER ACFT TO BE 200 FT ABOVE OUR ALT AND LESS THAN 1/2 MI. WE RPTED THE RA WITH ATC AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THE ACFT WAS AT 10500 FT. WE SHOWED THE ACFT TO BE AT 9500 FT. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY (1 MI OR LESS) WHICH WAS INDICATING A SLIGHTLY HIGHER ALT, 3 AIRPLANES WITHIN 1 1/2 MI OF EACH OTHER WITHIN 1000 FT. WE CONTINUED CLB WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AFTER WARNING AND CLR OF TFC.
