Narrative:

I requested daytona approach for 2 full VOR approachs for runway 17 at omn airport. Controller told me to fly northbound. I was flying along the shoreline and when I was about 5 mi southeast of flagler, the controller told me to look for traffic on my left and I acknowledged by saying 'looking for traffic.' then he told me to fly heading 250 degrees and asked me again if I saw the traffic and I repeated the same thing -- 'looking for traffic' and then 'I see the cessna on my left.' I climbed to avoid the near midair collision. Controller never alerted for the collision and kept giving us vectors for VOR runway 17 (omn) to fly heading 190 degrees to intercept the final course and maintain 1600 ft till established and I was cleared for the approach.
