Narrative:

While cruising at FL330, 2 hours after departure, left hydraulic system lost pressure (quantity high). Referred to QRH and turned right system to high and xfer pump on. System returned to normal pressure for 15 mins. Then both left and right system showed no pressure along with low pressure lights illuminated. That was preceded by a low frequency whirr which increased in volume over a short period of time. Flight attendants called and also reported the whirring noise in the cabin. We then followed QRH procedures for total loss of hydraulics. Notified ATC and company declaring an emergency at that time. Dispatch patched aircraft to maintenance for assistance. We then were able to regain the right hydraulic system. We landed at destination (dfw) with normal right hydraulic system pressure and no left hydraulic system pressure. Flight attendants and passenger were briefed per company procedures. Uneventful landing at dfw with the aircraft being inspected by emergency personnel. Taxied to the gate and debriefed maintenance, chief pilot, and FAA representative.

Title: AN MD80 FLT CREW DECLARED AN EMER AFTER LOSING BOTH HYD SYS. THE FLT CREW WAS ABLE TO REGAIN ONE OF THE HYD SYS PRIOR TO LNDG.

Narrative: WHILE CRUISING AT FL330, 2 HRS AFTER DEP, L HYD SYS LOST PRESSURE (QUANTITY HIGH). REFERRED TO QRH AND TURNED R SYS TO HIGH AND XFER PUMP ON. SYS RETURNED TO NORMAL PRESSURE FOR 15 MINS. DISPATCH PATCHED ACFT TO MAINT FOR ASSISTANCE. WE THEN WERE ABLE TO REGAIN THE R HYD SYS. WE LANDED AT DEST (DFW) WITH NORMAL R HYD SYS PRESSURE AND NO L HYD SYS PRESSURE. FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX WERE BRIEFED PER COMPANY PROCS. UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT DFW WITH THE ACFT BEING INSPECTED BY EMER PERSONNEL. TAXIED TO THE GATE AND DEBRIEFED MAINT, CHIEF PLT, AND FAA REPRESENTATIVE.
