Narrative:
Approximately 1 1/2 hours after takeoff, flight attendant #4 wrote me a note and passed it to me over the cart stating we were heading to sfo due to a mechanical problem and the plane was not airworthy to cross the pacific. The captain soon made a PA describing the problem. The aircraft descended in order to burn off fuel as we were going to be too heavy to land. In addition, the landing gear was lowered to create drag to help burn off more fuel. We flew this way for about 2 1/2 hours. Approximately 5 hours 10 mins after takeoff, we landed safely at ZZZ2 where we acquired another B767 and continued to ZZZ1.
