Narrative:

Cleared for short approach to runway 24 at carlsbad/palomar (crq). Turning right base to final, received TCASII RA on single engine cessna traffic intercepting final from left base. Complied with RA. Estimated miss distance (first officer saw other aircraft during evasive maneuver) 100 ft, directly over. Tower advised subsequently that other aircraft was maintaining visual separation from us although we heard a transmission from the other aircraft after the incident suggesting that perhaps he'd been maintaining visual separation from another aircraft in the pattern. Airport extremely busy with mix of jet and piston traffic including student training.
