Narrative:
Departure off teb runway 24, climb runway heading to 1500 ft, right turn to 280 degree heading, then climb to 2000 ft at approximately 3.5 DME. I misunderstood procedure. Climbed to 1500 ft on runway heading and continued climb to 2000 ft after turn. Contributing factors: long day (fatigue) and angry with first officer due to conflict with first officer and line service at teb (over chocks). Should have known better and read procedure myself prior to takeoff, but was discussing conflict instead. Departure advised that we were 500 ft too high prior to climb point.

Narrative: DEP OFF TEB RWY 24, CLB RWY HDG TO 1500 FT, R TURN TO 280 DEG HDG, THEN CLB TO 2000 FT AT APPROX 3.5 DME. I MISUNDERSTOOD PROC. CLBED TO 1500 FT ON RWY HDG AND CONTINUED CLB TO 2000 FT AFTER TURN. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: LONG DAY (FATIGUE) AND ANGRY WITH FO DUE TO CONFLICT WITH FO AND LINE SERVICE AT TEB (OVER CHOCKS). SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER AND READ PROC MYSELF PRIOR TO TKOF, BUT WAS DISCUSSING CONFLICT INSTEAD. DEP ADVISED THAT WE WERE 500 FT TOO HIGH PRIOR TO CLB POINT.
