Narrative:
Reported 8 mi north of microphone for transition through airspace to land at ZZZ. While approaching the departure end of runway 14R, noticed aircraft just lifted off runway 14R. I happened to look to my left front and another aircraft was in a climbing right hand turn below me. If I had not looked and started to descend, I believe it could have been a near midair. Tower controller did not point out either aircraft and when questioned, said 'sorry.' do not know anything about the other aircraft.
