Narrative:
Developmental controller told the aircraft to 'taxi via charlie to runway two two, hold short of runway 18.' taxiway charlie exits the ramp north side onto runway 9/27, but the intended route was charlie two, which exits the east side of the ramp and turns into taxiway alpha on the east side of runway 18/36 before it, too, crosses runway 9/27. The aircraft crossed runway 27 on charlie instead of charlie 2, while (fortunately) another aircraft was on a 1 mile final. The developmental issued alternative taxi instructions and avoided an operational error, but the situation continues to be extremely hazardous with the renamed taxiway names. Taxiway charlie 2 should be renamed taxiway alpha like it used to be, and this kind of misunderstanding could be greatly reduced. These taxiway names will result in a collision either at charlie and runway 9/27, or charlie 2 and runway 18/36.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DEVELOPMENTAL CTLR AT EVV USES DOUBLE MEANING PHRASEOLOGY CAUSING A BE36 PLT TO INCORRECTLY COMPLY WITH TAXI INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: DEVELOPMENTAL CTLR TOLD THE ACFT TO 'TAXI VIA CHARLIE TO RWY TWO TWO, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 18.' TXWY CHARLIE EXITS THE RAMP N SIDE ONTO RWY 9/27, BUT THE INTENDED RTE WAS CHARLIE TWO, WHICH EXITS THE E SIDE OF THE RAMP AND TURNS INTO TXWY ALPHA ON THE E SIDE OF RWY 18/36 BEFORE IT, TOO, CROSSES RWY 9/27. THE ACFT CROSSED RWY 27 ON CHARLIE INSTEAD OF CHARLIE 2, WHILE (FORTUNATELY) ANOTHER ACFT WAS ON A 1 MILE FINAL. THE DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUED ALTERNATIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND AVOIDED AN OPERATIONAL ERROR, BUT THE SIT CONTINUES TO BE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS WITH THE RENAMED TXWY NAMES. TXWY CHARLIE 2 SHOULD BE RENAMED TXWY ALPHA LIKE IT USED TO BE, AND THIS KIND OF MISUNDERSTANDING COULD BE GREATLY REDUCED. THESE TXWY NAMES WILL RESULT IN A COLLISION EITHER AT CHARLIE AND RWY 9/27, OR CHARLIE 2 AND RWY 18/36.
