Narrative:
During an annual visual inspection of a B737-400 rudder removal sling, I failed to notice that boeing dwg (engineering drawing) had been superceded to a dash-31. This inspection was accomplished in may 2002 and brought to my attention this aug 2004. This tool was inspected and brought back by asa (tooling safety inspection, annual) inspection for the last 4 yrs without catching the problem. This inspection period of 2004, the discrepancy was noted. The tooling is scheduled to be reworked and upgraded. The upgrade has to do with allowing the same tool to be utilized for the new generation B737-200, 800 and 900. At the time in 2002 we didn't have the new B73-700's and -900's. I don't think it really mattered but it's an error that I feel I should disclose.

Title: DURING AN ANNUAL TOOL INSPECTION OF A B737-400 RUDDER SLING, IT WAS FOUND THE SLING WAS OUT OF COMPLIANCE WITH CURRENT BOEING ENGINEERING DRAWINGS.
Narrative: DURING AN ANNUAL VISUAL INSPECTION OF A B737-400 RUDDER REMOVAL SLING, I FAILED TO NOTICE THAT BOEING DWG (ENGINEERING DRAWING) HAD BEEN SUPERCEDED TO A DASH-31. THIS INSPECTION WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN MAY 2002 AND BROUGHT TO MY ATTN THIS AUG 2004. THIS TOOL WAS INSPECTED AND BROUGHT BACK BY ASA (TOOLING SAFETY INSPECTION, ANNUAL) INSPECTION FOR THE LAST 4 YRS WITHOUT CATCHING THE PROB. THIS INSPECTION PERIOD OF 2004, THE DISCREPANCY WAS NOTED. THE TOOLING IS SCHEDULED TO BE REWORKED AND UPGRADED. THE UPGRADE HAS TO DO WITH ALLOWING THE SAME TOOL TO BE UTILIZED FOR THE NEW GENERATION B737-200, 800 AND 900. AT THE TIME IN 2002 WE DIDN'T HAVE THE NEW B73-700'S AND -900'S. I DON'T THINK IT REALLY MATTERED BUT IT'S AN ERROR THAT I FEEL I SHOULD DISCLOSE.
