Narrative:

Trainee released FL310 through altitude procedures on aircraft Y. Aircraft X was cruising at FL330. When aircraft Y checked in out of FL348 corrective action was taken to keep more than 5 mi. Unfortunately, it was not in time and loss of separation occurred. Supplemental information from acn 627818: I took radar contact on aircraft Y who was looking for lower. I typed in 310 so lake could give him lower. As soon as the aircraft checked in my trainer and I took evasive action. I turned the descending aircraft 30 degrees to the right. He turned the cruising aircraft to a 180 degree heading. Both planes were cleared back on course when clear.
