Narrative:
Cleared to taxi via taxiway C to hold short runway 18. Airport was using taxiway parallel to runway 17 due to construction of main runway 17/01. I looked at airport diagram and saw taxiway parallel to runway 18/17 to east side and assumed this was taxiway C but in fact this taxiway was taxiway B. As I proceeded along taxiway C, I came to intersection of 90 degree runway labeled as runway 9/27 and since runway 9/27 was reported closed, I crossed it, expecting to taxi to the end of taxiway C. Controller advised me to make a 180 degree turn as I had gone past hold point. Still thinking I had crossed runway 9/27, I crossed it a second time expecting a turn west, to the runway. At this point controller advised I had crossed active runway. There were no indications of runway 18 along the taxiway. I should have checked direction of taxi along taxiway C, but simply assumed I was on northbound taxiway and crossing closed runway would not require clearance. I called tower on landing as instructed. I would recommend that temporary signs identing runway 18 be erected.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PLT INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 9-27 AT FAR WITHOUT A CLRNC.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI VIA TXWY C TO HOLD SHORT RWY 18. ARPT WAS USING TXWY PARALLEL TO RWY 17 DUE TO CONSTRUCTION OF MAIN RWY 17/01. I LOOKED AT ARPT DIAGRAM AND SAW TXWY PARALLEL TO RWY 18/17 TO E SIDE AND ASSUMED THIS WAS TXWY C BUT IN FACT THIS TXWY WAS TXWY B. AS I PROCEEDED ALONG TXWY C, I CAME TO INTXN OF 90 DEG RWY LABELED AS RWY 9/27 AND SINCE RWY 9/27 WAS RPTED CLOSED, I CROSSED IT, EXPECTING TO TAXI TO THE END OF TXWY C. CTLR ADVISED ME TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN AS I HAD GONE PAST HOLD POINT. STILL THINKING I HAD CROSSED RWY 9/27, I CROSSED IT A SECOND TIME EXPECTING A TURN W, TO THE RWY. AT THIS POINT CTLR ADVISED I HAD CROSSED ACTIVE RWY. THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF RWY 18 ALONG THE TXWY. I SHOULD HAVE CHKED DIRECTION OF TAXI ALONG TXWY C, BUT SIMPLY ASSUMED I WAS ON NBOUND TXWY AND XING CLOSED RWY WOULD NOT REQUIRE CLRNC. I CALLED TWR ON LNDG AS INSTRUCTED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT TEMPORARY SIGNS IDENTING RWY 18 BE ERECTED.
