Narrative:
Aircraft #1 [reporter] landed at dvt runway 7L and exited at taxiway B9. There was space for only 1 airplane between taxiway B and hold line at taxiway B9 exiting. The 2 other airplanes were holding short of runway 7R at taxiway B9. Ground control was very busy with surface traffic and before we could obtain clearance to cross taxiway B, a beech bonanza landed runway 7L and appeared to be exiting at taxiway B9 as well. Taxiway B was unoccupied from both directions so we crossed taxiway B to provide room for the bonanza. Had we not moved, the bonanza would have remained on runway 7L which was very busy with student training. After we pulled up behind the 2 airplanes waiting to cross runway 7R, ground informed us we 'had crossed an active taxiway,' which we had. We thought it prudent to move without clearance not really realizing we were in fact crossing taxiway B. In retrospect, we should have let ATC work out the conflict and remained in place until receiving clearance.

Title: A C182 PLT KNOWINGLY CROSSED AN ACTIVE TXWY TO PROVIDE SPACE FOR A LNDG ACFT.
Narrative: ACFT #1 [RPTR] LANDED AT DVT RWY 7L AND EXITED AT TXWY B9. THERE WAS SPACE FOR ONLY 1 AIRPLANE BTWN TXWY B AND HOLD LINE AT TXWY B9 EXITING. THE 2 OTHER AIRPLANES WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 7R AT TXWY B9. GND CTL WAS VERY BUSY WITH SURFACE TFC AND BEFORE WE COULD OBTAIN CLRNC TO CROSS TXWY B, A BEECH BONANZA LANDED RWY 7L AND APPEARED TO BE EXITING AT TXWY B9 AS WELL. TXWY B WAS UNOCCUPIED FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS SO WE CROSSED TXWY B TO PROVIDE ROOM FOR THE BONANZA. HAD WE NOT MOVED, THE BONANZA WOULD HAVE REMAINED ON RWY 7L WHICH WAS VERY BUSY WITH STUDENT TRAINING. AFTER WE PULLED UP BEHIND THE 2 AIRPLANES WAITING TO CROSS RWY 7R, GND INFORMED US WE 'HAD CROSSED AN ACTIVE TXWY,' WHICH WE HAD. WE THOUGHT IT PRUDENT TO MOVE WITHOUT CLRNC NOT REALLY REALIZING WE WERE IN FACT XING TXWY B. IN RETROSPECT, WE SHOULD HAVE LET ATC WORK OUT THE CONFLICT AND REMAINED IN PLACE UNTIL RECEIVING CLRNC.
