Narrative:
I was the PF and performed a normal takeoff. The captain, after positive rate of climb, tried to put the gear up and the handle would not go above the off position. I continued flying the airplane while the captain did the abnormal checklist, called maintenance and company. The decision was made for us to return to bos. The captain then briefed our people and flight attendants and we made a normal return and landing. I do not know what caused the gear handle to bind at the off position but think the event was well handled with all crew members working to an uneventful air return to bos.
