Narrative:

Carj departed slc on a 280 degree heading, G5 departed slc on a 280 degree heading and more than 3 mi longitudinal separation existed with lead aircraft (carj) 20 KTS faster. The carj did not continue accelerating (may have even slowed in climb) and G5 gained on the carj until separation was lost west of slc airport. The TRACON controller was busy coordinating with another TRACON sector and failed to notice the situation deteriorating.
