Narrative:
Lost both navigation directors during takeoff. Followed QRH procedure and restored captain's navigation display. First officer navigation information restored to compact mode on pfd. Navigation display remained inoperative. During cruise, a burning electrical smell was noted followed by a subsequent failure of the captain's navigation display. Navigation information restored to captain's pfd through compact mode. An emergency was declared and a diversion initiated. Crew oxygen used during descent. QRH procedure to remove the smoke resulted in abatement of the odor. Odor recurred during approach/landing. No other indications of fire were noted. After check of aircraft exterior by crash fire rescue equipment personnel, taxied to gate and deplaned normally. No injuries or any known violation of far or company procedure. Supplemental information from acn 636569: captain's navigation display failed again through descent. Crew oxygen depleted through use.
