Narrative:
While on short final into lax, the approach controller switched us over to the tower frequency and as he did, we experienced a #1 generator fault/failure and were not able to respond to the controller for approximately 20 seconds. The #1 radio was recovered and I was able to switch over to the tower and get landing clearance. The first officer continued to hand fly the airplane and I performed the ECAM procedures, never recovering the generator. The landing was uneventful as was the taxi in and shutdown.
