Narrative:
I flew from bjj to cykf, IFR flight plan, to pick up 2 potential customers. From there to cak, IFR flight plan to clear customs, from cak to bjj, IFR flight plan. About 3 mi out, I canceled IFR. There was good visibility. On landing, the runway was totally snow-covered. No pavement could be seen. There appeared to be small piles of snow pushed out on the runway from the taxiway across the runway. At that point I think I became so affixed on this that I inadvertently landed to the left of the runway between the runway and taxiway, one main on the taxiway and the other on very soft unfrozen ground. As the aircraft slowed, it turned to the right and stopped, leaving me 90 degrees to the runway just off the taxiway about 4 ft. The aircraft was not damaged and no one was hurt. However, while pulling the aircraft out, I damaged the gear door. As PIC, I feel 100% responsible, but in hindsight, about landing on runway 28, I should have done a go around and used runway 10, which has a slight uphill grade. I feel if the runway had better snow removal, this could have been prevented.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C525 PLT LANDED BTWN THE ACTIVE RWY AND A TXWY ON A COMPLETELY SNOW COVERED TERRAIN.
Narrative: I FLEW FROM BJJ TO CYKF, IFR FLT PLAN, TO PICK UP 2 POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS. FROM THERE TO CAK, IFR FLT PLAN TO CLR CUSTOMS, FROM CAK TO BJJ, IFR FLT PLAN. ABOUT 3 MI OUT, I CANCELED IFR. THERE WAS GOOD VISIBILITY. ON LNDG, THE RWY WAS TOTALLY SNOW-COVERED. NO PAVEMENT COULD BE SEEN. THERE APPEARED TO BE SMALL PILES OF SNOW PUSHED OUT ON THE RWY FROM THE TXWY ACROSS THE RWY. AT THAT POINT I THINK I BECAME SO AFFIXED ON THIS THAT I INADVERTENTLY LANDED TO THE L OF THE RWY BTWN THE RWY AND TXWY, ONE MAIN ON THE TXWY AND THE OTHER ON VERY SOFT UNFROZEN GND. AS THE ACFT SLOWED, IT TURNED TO THE R AND STOPPED, LEAVING ME 90 DEGS TO THE RWY JUST OFF THE TXWY ABOUT 4 FT. THE ACFT WAS NOT DAMAGED AND NO ONE WAS HURT. HOWEVER, WHILE PULLING THE ACFT OUT, I DAMAGED THE GEAR DOOR. AS PIC, I FEEL 100% RESPONSIBLE, BUT IN HINDSIGHT, ABOUT LNDG ON RWY 28, I SHOULD HAVE DONE A GAR AND USED RWY 10, WHICH HAS A SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE. I FEEL IF THE RWY HAD BETTER SNOW REMOVAL, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.
