Narrative:
Air carrier X inbound blocked in to the gate around XA20. No inbound PIREPS, but ramp called in damage to aft cargo door opening scuff plate, and out crew called a PIREP for avionics, which required technician to enter the east&east bay, who knocked a roller out of position on the door track on the east&east door, and reported door would hot close to the a&P technician on the aircraft. The technician proceeded to line up the roller in the track, reinstall the door in the track, and opened and closed the door several times, in which the operation was normal. The technician then asked me, as his lead, how it should be signed off, and I told him a description of solution and operation was sufficient. I also told him that I had personally seen this happen hundreds of times when the first officer inspects the aircraft for the first flight of the day, with the B737 east&east door system. At no time did I think that this would be an inspection item, and subsequently did not call for inspection after the door was put back in its track.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-400 LEAD TECHNICIAN RPTS E&E COMPARTMENT DOOR HAD DROPPED OUT OF ITS ROLLERS. ROLLERS LINED UP AND DOOR REINSTALLED. ACFT DISPATCHED WITHOUT REQUIRED PRESSURIZED DOOR INSPECTION.

THE TECHNICIAN PROCEEDED TO LINE UP THE ROLLER IN THE TRACK, REINSTALL THE DOOR IN THE TRACK, AND OPENED AND CLOSED THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES, IN WHICH THE OP WAS NORMAL. THE TECHNICIAN THEN ASKED ME, AS HIS LEAD, HOW IT SHOULD BE SIGNED OFF, AND I TOLD HIM A DESCRIPTION OF SOLUTION AND OP WAS SUFFICIENT. I ALSO TOLD HIM THAT I HAD PERSONALLY SEEN THIS HAPPEN HUNDREDS OF TIMES WHEN THE FO INSPECTS THE ACFT FOR THE FIRST FLT OF THE DAY, WITH THE B737 E&E DOOR SYS. AT NO TIME DID I THINK THAT THIS WOULD BE AN INSPECTION ITEM, AND SUBSEQUENTLY DID NOT CALL FOR INSPECTION AFTER THE DOOR WAS PUT BACK IN ITS TRACK.
