Narrative:
At 6000 ft, 210 KTS, on final approach to ZZZ, we had a 'slat failure' annunciated on EICAS. Performed QRH procedure, declared an emergency. Made uneventful landing on runway 27L (no slat flap 2 landing) and at the gate the captain made the appropriate log book entry. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the flap handle has 5 settings, or detents, and the problems with slats and flaps are the computer interface with software issues that need correction. The company is working on the software problem.
