Narrative:
Opened shipping box for slide and saw that the firing cable was 'still armed.' carefully removed slide from box and moved to my work area. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the shop is receiving removed and out of date slides from line stations that are not following the maintenance manual disarming and shipping directives. These slides, if inadvertently triggered, can be fully deployed in 3 seconds and can cause injuries. The job cards and maintenance manual for door escape slide removal and installation is quite clear. When shipping the removed slide, the firing lanyard must be disconnected from the pressure bottle pin. The frequency of these armed slides showing up in the shop is increasing.

Narrative: OPENED SHIPPING BOX FOR SLIDE AND SAW THAT THE FIRING CABLE WAS 'STILL ARMED.' CAREFULLY REMOVED SLIDE FROM BOX AND MOVED TO MY WORK AREA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE SHOP IS RECEIVING REMOVED AND OUT OF DATE SLIDES FROM LINE STATIONS THAT ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE MAINT MANUAL DISARMING AND SHIPPING DIRECTIVES. THESE SLIDES, IF INADVERTENTLY TRIGGERED, CAN BE FULLY DEPLOYED IN 3 SECONDS AND CAN CAUSE INJURIES. THE JOB CARDS AND MAINT MANUAL FOR DOOR ESCAPE SLIDE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION IS QUITE CLR. WHEN SHIPPING THE REMOVED SLIDE, THE FIRING LANYARD MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE PRESSURE BOTTLE PIN. THE FREQUENCY OF THESE ARMED SLIDES SHOWING UP IN THE SHOP IS INCREASING.
