Narrative:
During climb out after takeoff on runway 17 at halla's field; I encountered a sudden environment change from smooth to moderate to severe turbulence possibly caused by wind turbine(south) located from 6000 ft to 9000 ft nnw to northwest of the threshold of runway 17. Winds according to the abilene ATIS were 280 degrees at 20 KTS gusting to 30 KTS. I chose a downwind takeoff since this would keep me from flying into possible vortices produced by these wind turbines and since the tailwind component would be at or less than 10 KTS. The occurrence happened at 100 ft above the runway surface and changed the condition of flight from smooth to very turbulent. I counteracted by leveling the aircraft to increase airspeed to maneuvering speed. I was able to maintain track over the runway centerline until I flew out of the rough air near the end of the runway. After I had departed the rough air; I resumed climb out to 4500 ft MSL and proceeded under VFR conditions.

Title: PLT OF C172 ENCOUNTERS TURBULENT AIR AFTER TKOF FROM UNCHARTED ARPT SW OF ABI. WINDS WERE 280 DEGS AT 20 KTS GUSTING TO 30 KTS.
Narrative: DURING CLBOUT AFTER TKOF ON RWY 17 AT HALLA'S FIELD; I ENCOUNTERED A SUDDEN ENVIRONMENT CHANGE FROM SMOOTH TO MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB POSSIBLY CAUSED BY WIND TURBINE(S) LOCATED FROM 6000 FT TO 9000 FT NNW TO NW OF THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 17. WINDS ACCORDING TO THE ABILENE ATIS WERE 280 DEGS AT 20 KTS GUSTING TO 30 KTS. I CHOSE A DOWNWIND TKOF SINCE THIS WOULD KEEP ME FROM FLYING INTO POSSIBLE VORTICES PRODUCED BY THESE WIND TURBINES AND SINCE THE TAILWIND COMPONENT WOULD BE AT OR LESS THAN 10 KTS. THE OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AT 100 FT ABOVE THE RWY SURFACE AND CHANGED THE CONDITION OF FLT FROM SMOOTH TO VERY TURBULENT. I COUNTERACTED BY LEVELING THE ACFT TO INCREASE AIRSPD TO MANEUVERING SPD. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN TRACK OVER THE RWY CTRLINE UNTIL I FLEW OUT OF THE ROUGH AIR NEAR THE END OF THE RWY. AFTER I HAD DEPARTED THE ROUGH AIR; I RESUMED CLBOUT TO 4500 FT MSL AND PROCEEDED UNDER VFR CONDITIONS.
