Narrative:
Flaps and slats were deployed normally for IMC ILS approach at ZZZ. First officer hand flew approach and noted strong crosswind below 5000 ft on final. Aircraft configuration indications were normal. Landed, retracted flaps and slats normally, and had normal flaps up indication on gauge. Normal taxi in and shut down at gate. First officer found left inboard spoiler detached from normal position and hanging by one connecting rod. Flap was bent and damaged. Flap housing was bent and damaged. This was a mechanical failure. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: all flight control configurations were normal and no warnings were annunciated. The reporter wanted to stress this was a mechanical failure and the age of the airplane may be a factor.
