Narrative:
I filed and was cleared lbb; tx; direct geu; az; FL240. En route; ZAB amended flight plan direct corona VOR direct socorro VOR jcobs intersection direct geu. ZAB further amended jcobs intersection jcobs 2 arrival geu cross jcobs intersection at 11000 ft. I had entered the first amendment in the garmin 530 GPS flight plan. The second amendment I entered jcobs 2 arrival into flight plan. Upon crossing jcobs intersection; the garmin 530 said to turn to 190 degrees. (This 190 degree heading was direct to geu airport.) after the turn; I checked the STAR jcobs 2 arrival and saw I should have turned to 171 degrees. I then turned to 160 degrees to intercept the 171 degree radial jcobs 2 arrival. The time was less than 1 min. About 30 seconds after the turn; phx approach advised I was off course and to turn left to 150 degrees. Barely 15 seconds later; I was told to turn 090 degrees. Another min later; phx approach cleared me to geu airport direct. The problem was my not having complete understanding of the recently installed garmin 530 GPS.
