Narrative:
Climbing through 7000 ft MSL; the APU fire warning light illuminated with accompanying bell. We had just shut down the APU 1 min prior. We pulled the fire handle and discharged the retardant; but the warning continued. We declared an emergency and diverted to ZZZ with vectors. To expedite landing; we exceeded 250 KTS below 10000 ft most of the way. The fire warning bell kept coming back on repeatedly and the fire lights never went out. No evacuate/evacuation was required. Crash fire rescue equipment greeted the aircraft; confirmed no fire indications. We taxied to the gate.
