Narrative:

We had a 'cpt' pitch trim switch fail on climb out; and then the backup pitch trim switch failed. We declared an emergency and asked for direct vectors back to ZZZ. Due to excessive workload and the desire to get the plane on the ground; the checklists were not run and an overweight landing was done. If we would have taken our time to run checklists and think through the situation; we could have operated within company procedures and aircraft limitations.
