Narrative:
On departure from teb; departure control instructed us to fly heading 220 degrees to intercept the col 350 degree right inbound. I programmed the FMS to intercept this course; but FMS did not 'move' to new course first setting. I reset once more and correct course did set; however; 'sic' pressed 'navigation' button before a correct setting occurred. As airplane began to turn early departure control 'slapped our hand' about early turn; returned us to heading 220 degrees to reintercept and gave us to the next sector. This all happened very quickly. I am sending this in 'just in case.' I am not aware of a conflict; but ny airspace is always busy.
