Narrative:
On departure from teb we were told by ny departure to fly a 040 degree heading from the 280 degree heading we were flying. I set a 340 degree heading in and was flying that. The controller asked us if we were going to fly the 040 degree heading and we turned to that heading. I asked if that heading mistake was going to be a problem and that controller said no problem. I should have asked about the heading after we were given it.
