Narrative:
On may/wed/05; I was the first officer on flight X; ZZZ1 to ZZZ2. On ship #X prior to boarding in ZZZ1; the flight attendants noticed the smoke curtain would not secure properly. Maintenance met the aircraft and said it was ok. The flight attendants and I told the mechanics that an FAA inspector; who was conducting ramp checks in ZZZ1 last yr; said the smoke curtain had to be fully secured in the event of smoke. The mechanics then said the smoke curtain was ok; 'because ATR said so;' and left the aircraft. The flight attendants then made a call to their supervisor and were told to write it up and go ahead and board the flight; since maintenance said it was ok. The flight then departed to ZZZ2. I am still unsure as to what is considered a properly secured smoke curtain.
