Narrative:
I had tried to avoid a sudden thunderstorm/lightning storm to my east as I was terminating one leg of my flight plan in ZZZ1. I was about 20 mi to the west of ZZZ1 and proceeded south to avoid the storm. I needed fuel and finally stopped in ZZZ2. I thought (this was my mistake) I could proceed on to ZZZ3 as a final destination; but the storms kept pushing me to the south to avoid them. Evidently; lightning affected my ability to receive on my radio. I saw no other airport in the storm in which to land; and could not hear any response from controllers. I had to land and get out of the storm. I looked for emergency lights from the tower but failed to see any in all the lightning strikes going on. The next morning I received clearance and proceeded back to ZZZ without incident.
