Narrative:

At XA00 we were assigned a downline to ZZZ for aircraft and told the emergency lights were left on and were dead. We left at XA50 and flew to ZZZ. When we arrived at ZZZ; I called maintenance control and he said they had been charging approximately 8 hours. I checked the lights inside and out. All were working. I was under the impression that it was an 8 hour charge (full) on the battery packs; therefore; signed off the write-up as charged batteries and flew back. I was told later that it was a 16 hour charge time; therefore; the report. I was the only one that worked on the aircraft. A fellow mechanic was also with me but I was finished with everything before he got to the aircraft.
