Narrative:
At FL400 received amber windshield heat inoperative right. As the nonflying pilot I reached for the checklist and before I could pull it out the message went away. We reviewed the checklist. During descent the message occurred again; before I could find the circuit breaker the message went out. At about 8;000' on the STAR the message reoccurred. Before I pulled the circuit breaker the windshield cracked. I pulled the breaker and donned my smoke goggles for eye protection. We informed ATC of the windshield crack; requested priority handling and declared an emergency. A short time later the windshield heat inoperative left cas message illuminated; the captain pulled the left circuit breaker. We landed uneventfully.
